The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 has commenced, and Egyptian national team player Mahmoud ‘Trézéguet’ Hassan expressed pride in participating in this prestigious tournament. He highlighted Qatar’s significant role in elevating the recognition of Arab football on the global stage. “The world witnessed Qatar’s exceptional hosting capabilities during the World Cup in 2022. It was a historic achievement not just for the country, but for the region,” Hassan stated.

The Egyptian squad has been drawn into Group C, competing against Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait. This year, the team aims to improve on their previous performance, where they finished fourth after a narrow penalty shootout loss to Qatar during the 2021 Arab Cup.

Hassan’s Commitment to Egyptian Football

“The Arab Cup is an incredible tournament. It is an honour for Egypt to play in this prestigious competition,” Hassan remarked. “Every match is an opportunity for the team to showcase its strength, and I am sure they are ready to give it their all and make our fans proud.” Currently, Hassan plays as a midfielder for Al Ahly and has had stints with notable clubs, including Aston Villa in the English Premier League and Al-Rayyan SC in Qatar.

Since his debut with the Egyptian national team in 2014, Hassan has made a significant impact, contributing to the team’s journey to the finals of the African Cup in both 2017 and 2023. Recently, he scored five goals during the qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup, helping Egypt secure a spot at the prestigious event.

“There is no greater feeling than wearing the national team jersey, with millions of Egyptian fans cheering for you,” he said. To date, Hassan has made 86 appearances for Egypt, scoring a total of 22 goals.

Looking Ahead to the Tournament

Egypt is set to begin their campaign in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 on December 2, facing Kuwait at the iconic Lusail Stadium at 17:30. “Playing in Qatar is a wonderful experience for any player. They will be playing on World Cup stadiums, which makes this tournament all the more special,” Hassan noted. He emphasized the quality of Qatar’s sporting infrastructure, stating that the facilities can significantly impact a team’s performance and success.

The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 runs from December 1 to 18, utilizing six stadiums that previously hosted matches during the historic FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. A total of 16 teams will vie for the coveted trophy, making this tournament a significant event in the sporting calendar.
