Third Arrest Made in Murder of US Student Kyle Whorrall in Auckland

A third individual has been arrested in connection with the murder of US PhD student Kyle Whorrall, who was fatally attacked at a bus stop in Auckland earlier this year. Whorrall, aged 33, suffered severe injuries after being struck with a “large, bladed weapon” while waiting at a bus stop on St John’s Road on April 19, 2023. He later succumbed to his injuries in hospital, as reported by 1News.

Police have confirmed that a second person has now been charged with murder, increasing the total number of arrests to three. According to Stuff, a 17-year-old male has been charged with murder and aggravated robbery, and he is expected to appear in the Auckland Youth Court soon. He is joined by another 17-year-old who faces the same charges. Additionally, a 33-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of being an accessory after the fact to murder. In a significant turn of events, authorities discovered a machete in late September hidden in a reserve approximately 4 kilometers from the attack site. This evidence has bolstered the ongoing investigation.
