King’s High School Celebrates Academic Excellence with 2025 Awards
King’s High School in Dunedin, New Zealand, recently held its annual prizegiving ceremony to recognize outstanding achievements among Year 9 and Year 10 students. The event highlighted the academic, leadership, and personal excellence of students, with numerous awards presented to commend their hard work and dedication.
Year 9 Awards Spotlight Academic Achievements
The Year 9 Prestige Awards saw notable winners, including Miguel Abad, who received the prestigious Paul Oestreicher Award for leadership. Other recipients of the Rector’s Excellence Award were Austin Breese, Kaleb Charles, Joseph Hamilton, Freddy Ma, Cormac Moore, and Henry Simpson. This award acknowledges students who have demonstrated exceptional performance across multiple subjects.
Additionally, Aston Lawrence and Ruben van Tonder were recognized as the top all-round students, earning the PTSA Award. The top academic student, Genjin Gurung, was awarded the Lang Medal for his exemplary academic performance throughout the year.
The ceremony also included the Rector’s Commendation for All-round Personal Excellence, recognizing students from various classes. In 9Cr, students such as Kawa Bradford and Ryan Casey were celebrated for their contributions in areas such as digital technology, music, and physical education.
Year 10 Honors Outstanding Students
The Year 10 Prestige Awards featured exceptional students, with Noah Crannitch earning dual honors as both the top all-round student and the top academic student with the Lang Medal. Other distinguished awards included the Emile Family Award for top Year 10 Pacific Island student, awarded to Moses Sarkies, and the Luke Taylor Memorial Award for top Māori student, presented to Marcel Taani.
Leadership recognition was given to Logan Gray, who received the Paul Oestreicher Award for demonstrating outstanding leadership qualities. The Rector’s Excellence Award was awarded to Max Connor, Gabby Fuentes, and Mac Menzies, who excelled across various subjects.
The event concluded with a commendation for all-round personal excellence in Year 10, acknowledging students such as Jethro Arona and Monty Bevin. They were celebrated for their commitment to both academics and extracurricular activities, reinforcing the school’s values of holistic education.
These awards reflect the commitment of King’s High School to fostering an environment that encourages academic excellence and personal growth among its students.
