Napier Upgrades Park Island with $2.6M Underground Power Project

The Napier City Council has launched a significant project aimed at enhancing the playability of Park Island, a popular park and sports field in Hawke’s Bay. In a collaborative effort with Unison Networks, the council will invest $2.6 million to relocate power lines underground over the next 18 months. This initiative is a vital component of the Park Island Master Plan, which was adopted in 2017, and is designed to address the growing needs for sports and recreational facilities in the area.

The decision to move the power lines underground is expected to create more flexible field layouts, thereby optimizing the use of the park as demand for sports facilities continues to increase.
