The Qatar Endurance Racing Club (QERC) is preparing to host the Founder Cup International Endurance Race on Friday at the Marathon Village in Sealine. The event features a challenging course spanning 120 kilometers and is set to conclude on Saturday.

A total of 75 riders, representing both genders, will compete in various stages of the race, including distances of 40 kilometers, 35 kilometers, 25 kilometers, and 20 kilometers. In addition to the main event, there will be a 100-kilometer International Qualifier Endurance Race, divided into four stages with distances of 35 kilometers, 25 kilometers, and 20 kilometers.

Event Schedule and Competitive Spirit

The activities will commence with a veterinary check and orientation briefing on Friday from 14:00 to 16:00 for all participants. Anticipation is high for the competition, as riders are eager to showcase their skills and vie for victory along with the prestigious trophy.

Founded on October 7, 2021, QERC operates as an extension of the Qatar Endurance Committee, which has its roots in the early 1990s. Originally part of the club, the committee transitioned into an independent body under the administration of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and is overseen by the Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF).

Historical Significance of Endurance Racing in Qatar

Qatar has a storied history in endurance racing, being one of the first countries in the Gulf and Arab region to organize such events. The inaugural local races were held in 1992, featuring distances of 40 kilometers and 42 kilometers. This was followed by the first international endurance race in 1994 in Ras Laffan, which attracted both Qatari riders and international participants.

As the Founder Cup approaches, the QERC is set to reaffirm its position as a leader in the endurance racing community, continuing a proud legacy that has made Qatar a key player in the sport.
