Crusaders Stumble Against Blues, Missing Will Jordan’s Impact

Coach Rob Penney acknowledged this issue, stating, “We talk about that a bit and that’s the last thing we want to. He’s world class and he makes a massive impact for any team he’s in.”

Penney characterized the match as an “ugly performance,” expressing disappointment in his team’s lack of rhythm and intensity. “We were messy, couldn’t get any rhythm,” he noted. “There wouldn’t be too many that could put their hand up and say it wasn’t me.” The Crusaders committed a series of handling errors, many occurring without significant defensive pressure. “It’s hard to put your finger on when good players are making errors,” Penney added.

Despite a disallowed try from Jamie Hannah, following a high tackle by Dom Gardiner, the Crusaders struggled to build momentum. Penney remarked on the impact of such calls, stating, “They’re big momentum shifters… Very frustrating, because it was a nice try and we’d fought our way back.”

This defeat marks a troubling start for the Crusaders, with only one win from their first four matches as they attempt to defend their title. “It probably does feel as though we haven’t certainly made the progress we would’ve liked on the back of last week,” Penney said.
