Former Police Chief Calls Allegations Against McSkimming Disturbing

Former Police Commissioner Andrew Coster has described the criminal allegations against ex-Deputy Commissioner Jevon McSkimming as “a really disturbing situation.” Coster made these remarks during an appearance on Herald NOW, where he discussed the implications of the case while serving in his new role as secretary for social investment.
In the interview, host Ryan Bridge inquired about Coster’s reaction upon learning that McSkimming was accused of possessing objectionable material on his work devices. Coster acknowledged the gravity of the situation but emphasized the constraints of discussing an ongoing legal matter. “Look, obviously it’s a really disturbing situation but as you would know, I can’t talk about it while it’s in front of the courts, and it would be unfair of me to do that, so we need to let those processes take their course,” he stated.
Bridge pressed Coster on whether he had ever suspected any wrongdoing from McSkimming, noting that some of the alleged offenses occurred during the time they worked closely together. Coster maintained his position, reiterating the importance of allowing the legal process to unfold without interference.
The allegations against McSkimming have raised significant concerns within the police community and beyond. As the case develops, it could have implications for public trust in law enforcement. Coster’s comments reflect the seriousness with which these allegations are being treated by former leadership within the police force.
The ongoing investigation highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in maintaining integrity and accountability. As the case progresses through the legal system, many will be watching closely to see how it unfolds and what measures will be taken to address any potential misconduct.
While Coster has stepped into a new role focused on social investment, his past as Police Commissioner places him at the center of discussions surrounding police conduct. The outcomes of this case may not only impact McSkimming but could also influence broader conversations about oversight and reform within police departments.
