Qatar and South Korea Boost Basketball Ties Through Collaboration

In a significant move to enhance international sports cooperation, the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) hosted a delegation from the Korean Basketball Association (KBA) in Doha on March 5, 2024. This visit, which marks the second day of their official engagement, aims to strengthen ties, explore partnership opportunities, and advance basketball development between the two nations.

Strengthening Ties Through Collaboration

The KBA delegation, led by President Kwon Hyuk-Won along with Secretary-General Jung Jae-Young and other senior officials, engaged in discussions focused on various areas of collaboration. Key topics included technical and administrative cooperation, with initiatives such as coach development programs, national talent training, and team exchanges. The parties also explored the potential for joint training camps and friendly matches between clubs and national teams.

Abdulrahman Al-Mana, a member of the QBF Board of Directors, highlighted the importance of this visit. He stated, “We warmly welcome constructive Asian partnerships. This visit opens new avenues for collaboration between the QBF and KBA, particularly given the remarkable progress of basketball in both nations. We believe in the power of shared expertise to elevate the sport, from youth levels to national teams.”

Al-Mana further elaborated on the discussions, mentioning the exploration of initiatives such as coach and player exchange programs, talent identification, and co-hosting tournaments to enhance Asian basketball’s global presence.

Touring Facilities and Future Prospects

During their visit, the KBA delegation toured the QBF headquarters, where they evaluated the federation’s state-of-the-art training facilities and advanced technologies. They also visited the Al-Janoub Stadium in Al-Wakrah, a notable venue that hosted matches during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. This tour aimed to provide insights into Qatar’s innovative sports facility management and technologies.

The KBA officials expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality shown by the QBF. They reiterated their eagerness for continued collaboration to advance basketball across Asia, recognizing the potential benefits of working together to enhance the sport’s profile in the region.
