Black Ferns Celebrate Win Over Spain, Players Cleared of Injuries

The Black Ferns secured a dominant 54-8 victory over Spain in their opening match of the Women’s Rugby World Cup. Following the match, the team received positive news regarding the health of three key players who had left the field due to injuries.
Loose forward Kaipo Olsen-Baker, winger Ayesha Leti-I’iga, and centre Amy du Plessis all experienced injuries during the game. Olsen-Baker, making her return after a previous foot injury, was stretchered off in the second half due to a lower leg issue. Initial assessments have ruled out a serious ankle fracture, and she will undergo further observation to assess her timeline for returning to play.
Injury Updates for Key Players
Both Leti-I’iga and du Plessis are also under evaluation for their respective injuries. Leti-I’iga is dealing with an ankle concern, while du Plessis has sustained a shoulder injury. As the team prepares for their next challenge, both players will have their conditions assessed to determine when they can rejoin the squad on the field.
Despite their injuries, all three players will continue to travel with the Black Ferns as they head to Exeter for their upcoming match against Japan on March 18, 2024 (NZ time). The team is optimistic that the players will recover quickly and contribute to the tournament’s success.
The Black Ferns demonstrated impressive teamwork and skill against Spain, and their focus now shifts to maintaining their momentum as they look to advance further in the tournament. With the support of their players, the team is eager to face Japan and continue their pursuit of the World Cup title.
