Black Ferns’ Trio Cleared of Serious Injuries After Spain Victory

The Black Ferns celebrated a dominant victory over Spain in their opening match of the Women’s Rugby World Cup, defeating the team with a score of 54-8. Following the match, the team received positive updates regarding the health of three key players who had left the field due to injuries. Loose forward Kaipo Olsen-Baker, winger Ayesha Leti-I’iga, and centre Amy du Plessis will remain with the squad as they prepare for their upcoming match against Japan.
Olsen-Baker, who was making her return after a previous foot injury, had to be stretchered off early in the second half due to a lower leg issue. Initial examinations revealed that she had not suffered an ankle fracture, but further assessments will determine her timeline for returning to play.
Both Leti-I’iga and du Plessis also faced injury concerns during the match, with Leti-I’iga dealing with an ankle issue and du Plessis experiencing shoulder discomfort. Their conditions will be evaluated further, with the coaching staff aiming to clarify their recovery paths.
As the Black Ferns head to Exeter for their next test against Japan on March 18, 2024 (NZ time), the health of these players will be closely monitored to ensure they can contribute in future matches. The team’s medical staff is optimistic about their recovery, emphasizing the importance of thorough assessments before making any decisions regarding their return.
The Black Ferns will be looking to maintain their momentum following their strong performance against Spain. With a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, they aim to build on their success as the tournament progresses.
