Zespri Announces Job Cuts Amid Industry Changes
Kiwifruit marketing company Zespri plans to reduce its workforce by cutting 65 jobs and will not replace an additional 70 positions. The announcement reflects a strategic response to the evolving landscape of the industry, according to Chief Executive Officer Jason Te Brake. In a statement to the NZ Herald, he emphasized the need for a “refreshed approach” to meet future challenges and opportunities.
Zespri is set to begin consultations with affected staff next week, with discussions extending into early October 2023. The company aims to engage with employees as it navigates these significant changes. Leading the dialogue will be Tracy McCarthy, Executive Officer for Grower and Industry Engagement, along with Tim Mackle, Chief Supply Chain Officer.
The decision comes at a time when the kiwifruit industry faces various challenges, including market fluctuations and changing consumer demands. The job cuts are part of a broader strategy to streamline operations and enhance the company’s competitive edge.
As Zespri prepares for these changes, stakeholders and employees alike are keenly observing how the company will adapt to the shifting dynamics in the industry. The outcome of the consultations will likely play a crucial role in shaping the company’s future direction and workforce structure.
The company has a long-standing reputation as a leader in the kiwifruit market, and these adjustments signal its commitment to remaining at the forefront of the industry while addressing current and future demands.
