New Zealand Couple Celebrates $1 Million Lotto Win with KFC Feast

A couple from Manawatū has marked their remarkable win of $1 million in the Lotto by celebrating with a KFC lunch. The pair, who have chosen to remain anonymous, discovered their fortune after their ticket was sold at their regular Four Square store in Palmerston North. They learned of their big win through the news on Father’s Day.
The husband recounted the moment he realised their numbers matched. He meticulously checked his ticket line by line, confirming the draw date, draw number, and all the winning numbers before contacting his wife. Initially, she thought it was a prank. Once he confirmed the win with Lotto, he informed the store of his intent to claim the prize.
Describing the experience as surreal, he noted the staff’s quiet congratulations made him feel like a film star. The couple is now focused on strategically planning how to manage their newfound wealth. Their top priority is to pay off their mortgage, but they are also taking their time to seek financial advice to ensure the longevity of their winnings.
Wider Lotto Success in New Zealand
The couple’s win was part of a bigger Lotto celebration across New Zealand. Two additional players from the Strike game also celebrated significant wins, each taking home $350,000. One winning ticket was sold at Pak’nSave Whakatāne, while the other was purchased through the MyLotto app by a player in Christchurch.
Such wins reflect the excitement surrounding Lotto in New Zealand and the joy it brings to families and communities. As the Manawatū couple begins their journey with their winnings, they join others in celebrating the life-changing potential of the lottery.
