Qatar and Latvia Forge Path for Enhanced Trade Cooperation

DOHA: The Qatar Chamber (QC) convened on March 14, 2024, to discuss enhancing trade cooperation with Latvia. The meeting featured H E Dana Goldfinča, the Non-Resident Ambassador of Latvia to Qatar, who was welcomed by QC Board Member Abdulrahman bin Abduljalil Al Abdulghani. Other attendees included Board Members Abdullah Al Emadi and Dr Mohammed bin Johar Al Mohammed.

Strengthening Economic Ties

During the meeting, participants explored strategies to bolster trade and economic relations between Qatar and Latvia. They identified key areas for potential collaboration in the private sectors of both nations, emphasizing significant investment opportunities for Qatari entrepreneurs in Latvia.

Al Abdulghani highlighted that the current trade volume between Qatar and Latvia remains limited, stressing the need for enhanced cooperation to increase trade exchange and mutual investments. He underscored the importance of the private sector’s role in this initiative.

Ambassador Goldfinča conveyed Latvia’s strong interest in deepening economic and trade ties with Qatar. She pointed out several promising sectors for Qatari investments, including information and communications technology, food security, tourism, renewable energy, healthcare, and logistics.

Investment Opportunities in Latvia

The ambassador also mentioned Latvia’s attractive investment landscape, which features eight free zones designed to provide various incentives and facilities for foreign investors. She reaffirmed her country’s commitment to welcoming Qatari investments across all sectors.

Goldfinča emphasized the necessity of strengthening the relationship between the Qatar Chamber and the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This collaboration aims to enhance communication and foster more robust connections between the business communities of both nations.

The discussions reflect a shared commitment to not only strengthen economic relations but also to create a foundation for future partnerships that can benefit both Qatari and Latvian businesses.
