Tasti Products Recalls Snack Items Due to Metal Contamination Risk
Tasti Products Limited has issued a recall of several snack items, including muesli bars, peanuts, and snack balls, due to concerns about potential contamination from small wire-like metal pieces. This precautionary measure was supported by New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS), which highlighted the risk of injury associated with consuming the affected products.
Vincent Arbuckle, deputy director-general of NZFS, confirmed that the impacted items have been removed from store shelves. “If you have any at home, don’t eat them. You can return them to the place of purchase for a refund. If that’s not possible, throw them out,” he advised.
The recall affects a variety of products, including Smooshed wholefood balls, snack logs, chopped peanuts, Frooze Balls, and nut bars. Notably, not all batches and flavours within these categories are implicated, prompting consumers to consult the recall page for detailed information on affected items.
Product Details and Consumer Guidance
These products are widely available at supermarkets and retailers across New Zealand. To assist consumers, up-to-date information—including photographs of the affected items—has been made available through the NZFS website.
Despite the gravity of the situation, Arbuckle noted that NZFS has not received any reports of injuries linked to the contaminated products. “As is our usual practice, NZFS will work with Tasti Products Ltd to understand how this happened and prevent its recurrence,” he stated.
Some of the recalled products have also been exported to international markets, including Australia, Fiji, India, and Singapore. NZFS has taken the necessary steps to inform food safety authorities in these countries about the potential risk.
The swift response from Tasti Products Limited and NZFS underscores the importance of food safety practices in protecting consumer health. As the investigation continues, further updates will be provided to ensure transparency and consumer awareness.
