The Celebrity Edge is scheduled to arrive at 09:00, carrying 2,934 passengers and 1,377 crew members. An hour later, the Celebrity Solstice will follow, with 2,852 passengers and 1,250 crew onboard. This dual arrival is anticipated to generate a vibrant atmosphere, with local businesses preparing to welcome visitors to the region.
Oscar Nathan, the general manager of Tourism Bay of Plenty, highlighted the importance of this cruise season. He stated that there are 82 cruise ships scheduled to visit the Bay of Plenty before May 5, 2024. These vessels are expected to bring nearly 161,300 passengers and over 70,200 crew members throughout the season.
The influx of tourists is expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy. Businesses in the Bay of Plenty are gearing up for what is projected to be their busiest season yet. Nathan emphasized the opportunities for local operators to showcase the region’s attractions and hospitality to a large audience.
As the cruise industry rebounds, the Port of Tauranga is set to become a key entry point for international visitors. The arrival of these ships not only enhances local tourism but also reinforces the Bay of Plenty’s reputation as a prime destination for cruise lines.
With the cruise season now underway, the region anticipates a lively atmosphere filled with excitement and exploration as tourists experience the beauty and culture of the Bay of Plenty. Local businesses are eager to make the most of this opportunity, further solidifying the importance of cruise tourism in the area.
