Game Over Opens New Entertainment Venue at Pakūranga Plaza
Pakūranga Plaza is set to welcome a new entertainment venue, Game Over, which is slated to open in the first quarter of 2026. This development marks a significant step in revitalizing the plaza, previously home to The Warehouse, which closed its doors in January 2025 after 31 years of operation. The new venture aims to enhance the area as a family-friendly hub, amid ongoing renovations and broader redevelopment plans.
Laura Poh, of Sedar Properties, the owners of Pakūranga Plaza, expressed enthusiasm about the new addition. “We’re pleased to welcome Game Over to Pakuranga Plaza! This is a positive step in supporting Pakūranga as a town and family hub, even as work on the wider redevelopment plan continues,” she stated in a response to inquiries from local media.
The closure of The Warehouse left a noticeable gap in the shopping precinct, which has struggled with reduced foot traffic due to extensive construction in the area, including the $1.3 billion Eastern Busway project. The Warehouse’s executive general manager, Ian Carter, previously cited these disruptions as a major factor in the decision to close the store.
As renovations progress, local residents have expressed curiosity about the future of the former warehouse space. Workers have been seen cleaning and preparing the expansive area for Game Over, which promises to bring a fresh wave of energy to the plaza. The entertainment venue will offer attractions such as go-karting, laser tag, mini-golf, and arcade games, positioning itself as a comprehensive family entertainment destination.
The announcement of Game Over’s opening has been well-received, with online real estate listings highlighting the venue’s potential to attract more visitors to Pakūranga Plaza. These listings describe the plaza as a leading retail destination along the new Panmure-Pakuranga-Botany corridor, noting that it is experiencing a major uplift driven by new anchor tenants and significant transport upgrades.
In addition to Game Over, Woolworths and Panda Mart continue to provide essential daily customer traffic, further enhancing the plaza’s appeal. The ongoing development of the new Pakuranga Bus Station, expected to be completed this year, is also anticipated to improve accessibility and attract more visitors to the area.
Game Over currently operates successful venues in Auckland, Christchurch, and Queenstown. The company aims to replicate this success in East Auckland, offering a variety of entertainment options for families and visitors alike.
As Pakūranga Plaza undergoes this transformation, the community is hopeful that Game Over’s arrival will signal a resurgence in local commerce and an enhanced experience for residents. The plaza’s future looks promising, with ongoing investments and improvements paving the way for a vibrant community hub.
