Nerci D Triumphs in Gr.3 Prix Mushrae at Toulouse
Nerci D showcased remarkable talent by winning the Gr.3 (PA) Prix Mushrae in Toulouse, a significant event for 3-year-old Purebred Arabian colts. This victory marked the colt’s first success at the Group (PA) level, cementing his status as a promising competitor in the racing world.
Trained by Thomas Fourcy and ridden by Guillaume Guedj-Gay, Nerci D raced under the ownership of Khalifa bin Sheail Al Kuwari. This was his debut under new connections after previously being trained and owned elsewhere. The colt entered the race off a morale-boosting win in the Prix Saint-Laurent, where he broke his maiden last month, also over a distance of 1600 meters.
Race Progression and Strategy
From the outset, Nerci D displayed confidence, settling into fourth position while racing alongside MNHattan, as the race was led by Ghazan du Soleil. The pace remained steady throughout the back straight, with minimal changes in positions as the field began to accelerate approaching the final stretch.
As competitors began to feel the pressure on the final bend, Nerci D maintained his composure. He expertly switched to the outside of the leading horse as they entered the straight, launching his challenge. Within the final 300 meters, he took the lead, pulling a length clear. Yet, Alibaba du Nil made a strong attempt to close the gap on the inside, with MNHattan also making a late charge from the outside.
Displaying tenacity, Nerci D responded to the challenge, managing to hold on and secure victory by a half-length. MNHattan finished strong in second, while Alibaba du Nil claimed a close third.
Background and Legacy
Bred by Daniel Stud, Nerci D is a descendant of Neige Al Maury (by Dormane), who was a dual winner over 2400 meters in the UK at age five. Neige Al Maury is a half-sister to No Risk Al Maury, a prestigious dual Gr.1 (PA) winner with multiple accolades across distances from 1600 to 2000 meters during his racing career.
This victory at the Prix Mushrae not only highlights Nerci D’s potential but also positions him as a contender to watch in future races. His performance reflects the quality and training behind him, suggesting a bright future ahead in the world of Arabian horse racing.
