In Wellington, the festivities were led by outgoing Indian High Commissioner to New Zealand, Neeta Bhushan. The day commenced with the unfurling of the Indian national flag, followed by renditions of the national anthem and the patriotic hymn Vande Mataram. These ceremonial activities fostered a strong sense of community and national pride among those in attendance.
Auckland’s celebrations, presided over by Consul General Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, drew a significant crowd from the local Indian community. Attendees engaged in cultural performances, showcasing traditional dances and singing patriotic songs. The event also included a light lunch featuring beloved Indian dishes such as chole, puri, dal, chawal, and the popular dessert ladoos. This culinary aspect added a flavorful touch to the day’s celebrations.
Community leaders addressed the gathering, reflecting on India’s rich heritage and the significance of Republic Day for Indians both in their homeland and abroad. The speeches emphasized the enduring connection the Indian diaspora maintains with the cultural and democratic values of their country.
