Farmers to Elect New Director for Beef + Lamb New Zealand
Beef + Lamb New Zealand is preparing for the election of a new farmer director in the Southern South Island district. This election comes as the current director, Geoffrey Young, steps down after fulfilling his term, with his retirement scheduled for March 17, 2024. The candidates vying for this important position are farmers Simon Davies, Glen McDonald, and Matt McRae.
Voter information regarding the three candidates will be made available to eligible voters starting early next month. To participate in the election, farmers must meet specific criteria. They must have owned at least 250 sheep, 50 beef cattle, or 100 dairy cattle as of June 30, 2023, and must be registered on the Beef + Lamb electoral roll within the relevant electorate.
Online voting will commence next month and is set to conclude on March 12, 2024. This process presents an opportunity for farmers in the Southern South Island to have their voices heard in the governance of the industry. With the election approaching, the candidates are expected to outline their visions and policies, providing farmers with the information needed to make an informed choice.
As the election date draws near, the focus will be on how the candidates plan to address the challenges facing the farming community, particularly in the areas of sustainability and economic viability. This election is critical, given the significant role that farmer directors play in shaping policies that impact the agricultural sector in New Zealand.
Farmers are encouraged to stay informed and engaged as this election unfolds, ensuring that their interests and concerns are represented in the leadership of Beef + Lamb New Zealand.
