Invercargill police officers are preparing to distribute a total of 292 teddy bears to young families in need, thanks to the generosity of local customers. The initiative, spearheaded by the Invercargill branch of Whitcoulls, aims to provide comfort to children during challenging times.

A significant contribution of 130 teddy bears was donated to the Invercargill Police. These cuddly toys will be handed out at accident sites to children affected by distressing situations. Roz Waldron, the manager of Whitcoulls Invercargill, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “The New Zealand Police take these out to accident sites and hand them out to children, which makes this a really worthy cause.”

In addition to the bears given to the police, 162 teddy bears were delivered to Southland Hospital, where they will be provided to children receiving care. This effort reflects a community commitment to support families during difficult moments.

Police staff involved in the initiative, including officers Tony McGoldrick, Simon Ballantyne, Emma Lennon, Jony Bode, and T Horler, expressed their enthusiasm about sharing the toys with those in need. The distribution of these teddy bears not only provides comfort but also fosters a sense of community support and safety.

The ongoing partnership between Whitcoulls and the Invercargill Police exemplifies how local businesses can play an important role in community welfare. As police continue to engage with residents and provide assistance, these teddy bears serve as a tangible reminder of the community’s collective compassion and care for its youngest members.
