The injury-hit Black Ferns Sevens secured a dramatic victory over Australia in the final of the Vancouver Sevens on March 11, 2024. On this year’s International Women’s Day, she also highlighted the influence of past rugby legends. “When I was younger I was looking up to the greats, amazing players like Portia Woodman and Sarah Hirini. I hope that, as a team, we can inspire young girls and young boys to play rugby,” she added.

In other matches during the tournament, USA defeated France to claim third place, marking their first podium finish in nine tournaments. Canada delighted the home crowd by finishing fifth, while Japan secured seventh place after a closely contested playoff against Great Britain.

Men’s Final and Upcoming Events

In the men’s competition, South Africa triumphed over Spain with a decisive score of 38-12, taking home the title. Meanwhile, the All Blacks Sevens were unable to advance to the semifinal stage, having lost to both finalists during the pool rounds.
