Liam Lawson Drives Success, Raising Over $50,000 for Breast Cancer Research
New Zealand Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson has successfully raised over $50,000 for breast cancer research during a special event at Highlands Motor Park in Cromwell. This initiative, which attracted a large gathering of motorsport enthusiasts, featured Lawson offering exhilarating hot laps in a selection of high-performance vehicles.
Community Support Drives Change
The event took place on a Tuesday, organized by Josie Spillane, the chief executive of Highlands Motor Park. Spillane was inspired to create this fundraising opportunity after losing her friend Louise Scott-Gallagher to breast cancer. She emphasized that the day was about more than just racing, stating, “Liam’s generosity in giving us his time helped us raise crucial funds for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, ensuring her legacy continues to drive real change. We’re overwhelmed by the community’s support.”
Lawson took the wheel of several exclusive cars, including the only Aston Martin Vulcan in the southern hemisphere and a Porsche GT3. The event featured a silent auction where attendees could bid for passenger rides, contributing significantly to the fundraising efforts. Notably, the hot laps in the Vulcan alone raised over $32,000.
A Meaningful Impact
Craig Gallagher, Scott-Gallagher’s husband, expressed gratitude for Lawson’s involvement, highlighting the impressive amount raised. Lawson, who has known Spillane for many years, shared his enthusiasm for the cause, stating, “I can’t believe how many people were here, and how much money was raised for Breast Cancer.” His participation not only showcased his driving skills but also showcased a commitment to supporting vital research and awareness initiatives.
Highlands Motor Park confirmed that all proceeds from the auctions and donations would directly support the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ in its mission to advance research, raise awareness, and provide patient support. This successful event serves as a testament to the power of community engagement and the impact of individuals like Lawson in the fight against breast cancer.
