Warriors Dominate Burleigh Bears to Claim NRL State Championship
The Warriors emerged victorious in the NRL State Championship, overpowering the Burleigh Bears with a decisive performance that culminated in a 50-18 win. Following their triumph in the NSW Cup the previous week, the Warriors reserves demonstrated their strength by scoring 24 consecutive points early in the match, establishing an insurmountable lead.
Winger Setu Tu, fullback Taine Tuaupiki, and five-eighth Luke Hanson each notched two tries, while halfback Tanah Boyd contributed significantly with 18 points and four try assists. The scoring commenced with a try from centre Ali Leiataua, who received a precise long pass from Boyd to put the Warriors ahead.
Momentum quickly built as Tu chased down a high kick from Boyd, securing the second try. Boyd, showcasing his playmaking skills, then capitalized on a quick run from hooker Sam Healey, who found him in support for a try of his own. Tuaupiki added to the tally, darting through the defence after faking a pass to Tu, further widening the gap against the Bears.
The Warriors continued to show their dominance as Boyd again orchestrated a scoring play, finding Freddie Lussick running a direct line to the posts. The Bears managed to get on the scoreboard when Cole Geyer broke their scoring drought, but the first half ended with quick hands from Leiataua allowing Tu to score again, leaving the Warriors with a comfortable 32-6 lead at halftime.
As the second half began, Tu was denied a chance for a hat-trick when defenders held him up over the try line. Moments later, opposite winger Ed Kosi faced a similar fate, thwarted in the left corner. Hanson eventually broke through the defensive line, shaking off a tackler to add another try.
Despite a brief resurgence from the Bears, with second-rower Ewan Moore scoring, Tuaupiki once again demonstrated his individual brilliance with an audacious effort to slice through the defence for his second try. Hanson followed suit, completing his double and driving the Warriors past the 50-point mark.
The Bears managed to score back-to-back tries, restoring some pride in the closing moments, but it was the Warriors who celebrated their commanding victory and claimed the NRL State Championship trophy. This win solidifies their status as a formidable force in the league, displaying a blend of skill, teamwork, and resilience throughout the match.
