Discover Local Heroes at Bucklands Beach Yacht Club Open Day
On February 22, 2024, the Bucklands Beach Yacht Club will host its annual Open Day, inviting the public to explore its facilities and engage with local community heroes. This event aims to break the barriers of what lies behind the Clubhouse doors, providing a unique opportunity for families to interact with various local services and learn more about maritime safety.
Visitors will have the chance to meet community figures, including the local police constable and firefighters. Attendees can explore a police car and climb aboard a fire truck, making for memorable experiences and photo opportunities. The fire crew will also showcase their interactive ‘Smoke House’, educating both children and adults on fire safety and the rapid spread of flames.
Engaging Activities for All Ages
The Open Day will feature the Deodar, a maritime police vessel, which will be docked at the Club’s marina for tours. Guests are encouraged to take a closer look at the vessel and learn about its role in maritime safety. Additionally, the Howick Coastguard will present one of their rescue boats, further highlighting the vital services available in the community.
Inside the Club, families can enjoy dining at the Boatshed Restaurant and Bar, with stunning views of Rangitoto Island. Children will have the opportunity to engage in games in the Headsail Lounge or participate in the Kids Big Fish fishing club competition. Registration for this competition will be available on the day, providing young aspiring anglers with a chance to get involved.
The Club offers sailing courses suitable for all ages and skill levels. Experts will be on hand to discuss how to get started on the water, making this Open Day an ideal occasion for families to learn about sailing and consider membership options.
