In the aftermath of the attack, Corbel’s family has been left shaken. “You just immediately react,” she explained, reflecting on how her son reacted to police sirens the following morning. “Any noise, you’re just on edge.” As they attempted to regain a sense of normalcy, she found herself constantly assessing their surroundings for escape routes, even while sitting in a café.

The incident has prompted Corbel to reconsider her children’s safety in Sydney. She expressed a strong desire for them to return home to New Zealand, stating, “It’s pretty scary. The kids both live here, and I think it’s time for them to come home.” Corbel also mentioned that they have been unable to retrieve their belongings, including phones and wallets, left behind in the locked-down restaurant.
