Family Remembers Fiona Cameron and Tomi Muliaga After Tragic Fire
The family of Fiona Cameron, a 71-year-old woman who tragically lost her life in a house fire at Foxton Beach, is mourning the loss of both her and her partner, Tomi Muliaga. The couple died earlier this month in a fire that occurred at Muliaga’s residence, located approximately 5 kilometers west of Foxton and 90 minutes north of Wellington.
In an emotional statement, Cameron’s daughter, Hayley Perkins, expressed the family’s heartbreak, describing her mother as “the most loving and caring” person. She noted that the deaths of Cameron and Muliaga have left the family and the wider community “absolutely devastated.” Perkins emphasized the deep affection many had for her mother, stating, “Everybody loved her.”
Cameron, a mother of eight, had experienced a varied life, having been married three times. For most of her children’s lives, she was a solo parent. Perkins shared that her mother had moved several times over the years but had settled in Foxton Beach two years ago. Initially, she lived across the street from Muliaga, who also had a history of marriage prior to their relationship.
The fire, which has left the community in shock, is currently under investigation. Local authorities have not yet released details regarding the cause of the blaze. Perkins remarked on the couple’s significance in the community and how they touched the lives of those around them.
As the family navigates this painful time, they are receiving support from friends and neighbors. Perkins highlighted the outpouring of love for her mother, indicating that Cameron’s legacy will continue through the memories shared by those who knew her. She hopes that the community will remember Cameron not just for the tragedy but for her kindness and caring nature.
This incident has sparked discussions about fire safety in residential areas, with local officials urging residents to take precautions. As the investigation unfolds, the community remains united in support of the families affected by this tragic event.
