Kmart Recalls Gel Packs Over Toxic Substance Risk
Kmart has issued a recall for its Anko-branded Small Gel Pak and Large Gel Pak due to potential contamination with a toxic substance. The recall, announced in October 2023, affects customers who may have purchased these gel packs, which are designed for therapeutic use.
The specific concern revolves around the presence of ethylene glycol, a hazardous chemical commonly found in antifreeze and de-icing fluids. Ethylene glycol is colourless and odourless, making it particularly dangerous, as it can easily go undetected. In contrast, the intended ingredient, glycerol, is non-toxic and frequently used in products like moisturisers, cosmetics, and certain food items.
