Sculptor Adrian Worsley Transforms Farm Scrap into Art with Giant Cow
Adrian Worsley, a sculptor based in Te Aroha, has embraced the “trash to treasure” philosophy, transforming recycled farm materials into striking works of art. Over the past 15 years, Worsley has created a wide range of pieces, including notable installations such as Matamata’s signature racehorse and one of Morrinsville’s “Herd of Cows.” His latest project, a life-sized cow sculpture, is set to make its debut in the Waikato region.
This impressive piece, weighing an astounding 825 kg, stands at a height of 2.5 m and measures 3.5 m from nose to tail. The giant Friesian cow will be transported from Worsley’s gallery on Rewi Street to its new home later this month. This project not only showcases Worsley’s artistic talents but also highlights his commitment to sustainability and innovative reuse of materials.
Worsley’s previous works have made a significant impact in local communities. His sculptures can be found in various locations, including street art in Te Aroha, and educational institutions such as Paeroa College and Matamata Primary School. Each piece reflects his dedication to repurposing materials that would otherwise be discarded, turning them into captivating art forms that resonate with the public.
The new cow sculpture represents a culmination of Worsley’s artistic journey, blending creativity with a message of environmental responsibility. By using recycled materials, he not only creates visually stunning pieces but also encourages a conversation about sustainability within the art community.
