Search Resumes for Missing Tramper Connor Purvis Near Mt Huxley
A large-scale search operation for missing tramper Connor Purvis has resumed near Lake Ōhau in New Zealand’s Southern Alps. The 20-year-old intended to climb Mt Huxley on December 30, 2023, and was supposed to descend via the Huxley River South Branch. His failure to return has raised significant concerns among search teams and family members.
Specialist crews are actively combing the rugged terrain today, focusing on areas where Purvis might have sought shelter. According to Sergeant Matt Sheat, coordinator of the Otago Coastal Search and Rescue, previous searches have yielded no sign of Purvis in local huts or campsites. This lack of evidence has intensified worries about his safety.
The search involves multiple teams, including ground crews equipped with advanced tracking technology. The challenging weather conditions in the region further complicate the efforts, but teams remain committed to locating Purvis. As of now, there has been no indication of his whereabouts, prompting authorities to extend their search efforts.
Community members are also rallying to support the search. Volunteers have joined the professional teams, bringing local knowledge to the operation. The close-knit community has expressed deep concern for Purvis’s family, who are anxiously awaiting any news regarding their loved one.
Local authorities continue to urge anyone with information about Purvis’s whereabouts to come forward. The search is expected to continue as long as weather permits, with hopes that teams will locate him safely.
As the search progresses, updates will be provided to the public, and the community remains hopeful for a positive outcome.
