As he was playing with his children, he spotted something unusual in the water near his daughter. “I was carrying my daughter and put her down. When I put her down, I noticed something moving. It almost looked like a stingray,” he recounted to the *Herald*.

Upon closer inspection, Kumararathna realized the shape in the water was much larger. “Then the whole shape came into view and I saw the dorsal fin and the two fins sticking out of the water,” he added. This revelation led him to act quickly, ensuring his family’s safety.
