Thieves Steal Jewellery from Louvre Museum in Early Morning Heist
Robbers executed a bold heist at the Louvre Museum in central Paris on the morning of March 10, 2024, making off with jewellery valued as yet unconfirmed. According to a source close to the investigation, the theft occurred shortly after the museum opened to the public, prompting immediate action from law enforcement.
Details surrounding the incident reveal that an unknown number of thieves arrived on scooters, armed with small chainsaws. They utilized a goods lift to access the targeted area within the museum. The Louvre, known as the world’s most-visited museum, has since closed its doors for the day as authorities continue to assess the situation.
French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati confirmed the robbery took place as the museum was preparing to welcome visitors. In a post on X, she stated, “No injuries were reported. I am on site alongside museum staff and the police. Investigations are ongoing.” This swift response highlights the seriousness of the incident and the ongoing efforts to secure the premises.
The museum, which houses iconic artworks including Leonardo da Vinci‘s Mona Lisa, announced it would remain closed due to “exceptional reasons.” Authorities are currently working to evaluate the total value of the stolen items and gather evidence to identify the suspects involved in the robbery.
As investigations proceed, the incident raises concerns about security measures at one of the world’s most renowned cultural institutions. The Louvre has long been a symbol of art and history, attracting millions of visitors each year. The implications of this theft could extend beyond the immediate loss of valuable items, affecting the museum’s reputation and visitor confidence.
The local community, alongside art enthusiasts globally, will be closely monitoring the developments surrounding this high-profile case. Further updates are expected as police continue their inquiries and gather more information.
