Volkswagen ID. Buzz Transforms into Eco-Friendly Mystery Machine
A Palmerston North car dealer has unveiled a unique twist on a classic cartoon vehicle. The Volkswagen ID. Buzz has been transformed into an eye-catching “Eco-Mystery Machine,” inspired by the beloved *Scooby-Doo* series. This vibrant vehicle is part of a sustainability campaign aimed at raising awareness about electric vehicles and renewable energy.
The collaboration involves Robertson Prestige, which operates the Volkswagen dealership, alongside Vestas, a wind farm technology developer, and Graphics HQ, responsible for the nostalgic custom wrap. The design not only references the iconic *Scooby-Doo* cartoon but also pays homage to the classic VW Kombi. Its bright orange flowers cleverly double as wind turbines, while characters like Scooby, Shaggy, Velma, Fred, and Daphne adorn the sides, promoting key environmental messages.
According to Nathalie Holmes, marketing and events coordinator at Robertson Prestige, the Eco-Mystery Machine will be available for lease. This initiative allows community groups to utilize the vehicle for events such as fundraisers, school galas, and Christmas parades over the next year. The first public outing for this distinctive vehicle is scheduled for the Whanganui Riverside Markets on March 16, 2024.
The ID. Buzz, which launched in New Zealand in July 2023, represents a significant step in the evolution of electric vehicles. It boasts a range of 403 kilometres on a full charge, making it a practical option for eco-conscious consumers. Sales specialist Joe Turner noted that approximately 30 units have already been sold in Auckland, where pricing starts at $124,990. The fully decked-out Eco-Mystery Mobile is valued at around $150,000.
This campaign not only highlights the ID. Buzz’s innovative features but also serves as an engaging way to educate the public about sustainability. Turner emphasized that Volkswagen aims to create a community-oriented experience rather than just a sales push. “What we’re trying to do as well, and Volkswagen as a brand, is make it more about the people than coming in to see the car. People make it a car,” he stated.
As the Eco-Mystery Machine prepares for its debut, it stands as a testament to both nostalgia and modern innovation. This initiative is set to capture the imaginations of both long-time fans of *Scooby-Doo* and new audiences eager to embrace sustainable transport solutions.
