Aoraki Foundation Welcomes New Trustees with Local Expertise
The Aoraki Foundation has appointed two new trustees, Rachel Callaghan and Tom Lambie, to its board, enhancing its governance and community insight. In a statement, board chairman Greg Anderson expressed enthusiasm about the additions, emphasizing their potential to foster local philanthropy and build lasting benefits for the South Canterbury region.
Rachel Callaghan, a chartered accountant with extensive experience in rural banking, aims to leverage her financial expertise for community stewardship. Callaghan articulated her desire to simplify the process for donors to invest in meaningful causes, ensuring that contributions yield enduring benefits for the local community. She credits her commitment to philanthropy to the generous examples set by her family, viewing her role as a trustee as a means to honor that legacy.
Tom Lambie brings a wealth of experience as a seasoned leader in the agricultural sector and a long-time resident of South Canterbury. Since moving to the region in 1972, Lambie has made significant contributions to local and international agricultural organizations, including serving as national president of Federated Farmers and vice-president of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers. His governance roles with Opuha Water Ltd and Environment Canterbury further exemplify his commitment to community development. A graduate of Lincoln University, Lambie is recognized for his strategic approach to stewardship, which aligns with the foundation’s mission of transforming donor intent into impactful projects.
The Aoraki Foundation’s board believes that the combined expertise of Callaghan and Lambie will enhance its capability to manage funds effectively, assess community needs, and scale grant-making initiatives. Their appointments are expected to strengthen the foundation’s role as a local vehicle for smart and sustainable giving, ultimately benefiting rural families and communities across South Canterbury for generations to come.
In an era where community support and resilience are essential, the Aoraki Foundation is well-positioned to partner with donors, organizations, and community leaders, thanks to the leadership and commitment of its newly appointed trustees. With a strong foundation now bolstered by local expertise, the organization is set to make substantial strides in fostering generosity and addressing the evolving needs of the region.
