At the All Energy Australia 2025 event in Melbourne, Australia, Sunwoda, a prominent player in lithium-ion battery and energy storage solutions, unveiled its latest advancements in energy storage technologies. The company showcased its cutting-edge battery cell innovations and comprehensive energy storage systems, emphasizing their adaptability to Australia’s unique energy landscape.
Highlighting Innovative Battery Technologies
During the event, Spike Zhang, Sunwoda’s Regional Solution Director, delivered a technical presentation titled “Sunwoda Liquid Cooling ESS 3.0 Concept Briefing.” Zhang detailed the company’s end-to-end energy storage architecture, focusing on the innovative winding and stacking technologies used in their batteries. The new 684Ah cell, utilizing stacking technology, enhances energy density and facilitates seamless integration, making it particularly suitable for applications where space is limited or high capacity is required.
Conversely, the 588Ah cell, which employs winding technology, is designed for cycling stability and energy efficiency. This makes it ideal for projects in Australia that require frequent charge-discharge cycles, a common characteristic of the region’s energy storage needs.
Comprehensive Energy Storage Solutions
Zhang also elaborated on Sunwoda’s Liquid Cooling ESS 3.0 layout, underscoring the flexibility of their energy storage systems. These systems support a wide range of capacities and are compatible with various applications, demonstrating resilience across Australia’s diverse climates—from arid deserts to humid coastal areas. One notable example is the 3MWh Liquid Cooling ESS, which integrates 588Ah cells and features multiple fire protection measures, precise temperature and humidity management, and high system integration for convenient transport.
Sunwoda has already implemented several local projects across New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland, addressing a variety of DC-coupled energy storage applications. The company’s solutions comply with AS/NZS 3000 standards, reflecting a commitment to local certification, engineering adaptation, and on-site support as part of its dedication to developing Australia’s energy storage capabilities.
In addition to its technological advancements, Sunwoda is committed to sustainability and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) compliance. The company has introduced a comprehensive battery recycling and reuse strategy that encompasses the entire lifecycle of lithium batteries. Currently, Sunwoda operates specialized recycling facilities focused on the remanufacturing and thorough recycling of used batteries.
By 2025, the company anticipates an annual processing capacity of 120,000 tons of used lithium batteries and a remanufacturing capacity of 1 GWh. Furthermore, Sunwoda plans to establish new recycling centers in Europe and Thailand, aiming to provide full-lifecycle circular management services for lithium batteries, benefiting customers in Australia and globally.
Founded in 1997, Sunwoda Electronic Co., Ltd. became publicly listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2011 and later on the Swiss Stock Exchange in 2022. With nearly three decades of innovation, the company has cemented its status as a leader in lithium-ion battery technology, ranking among the global top ten in power battery installations and energy storage cell shipments, and recognized as a Bloomberg Tier 1 Energy Storage Manufacturer.
