In a commanding performance, Roger Guedes scored four goals, leading Al Rayyan to a decisive 5-1 victory over Al Shahania in the Qatar Stars League on March 14, 2024. The match took place at Al Khor Stadium and propelled Al Rayyan to fourth place in the league standings.
Al Rayyan’s Dominance from the Start
Al Rayyan showcased their offensive prowess right from the kickoff. With sharp movement and quick combinations, they quickly established control over a struggling Al Shahania team. Guedes opened the scoring in the sixth minute, converting a long lofted pass from Ahmed Alaaeldin with a well-placed header.
As the first half progressed, Guedes continued to shine. He doubled the lead in the 40th minute, receiving another precise through pass from Alaaeldin that allowed him to slot the ball home from close range. Guedes completed his hat-trick in first-half stoppage time, unleashing a powerful strike from approximately 25 yards out to make it 3-0 at halftime.
Al Shahania’s Brief Resurgence
After the break, Al Shahania attempted to mount a comeback, with Mohammed Bbalah scoring in the 56th minute to reduce the deficit. Despite the goal, Al Rayyan maintained their composure and continued to press for more. Guedes nearly added to his tally in the 62nd minute, but Al Shahania’s goalkeeper, Shehab Ellethy, successfully denied his shot from the left side of the box.
Wesley Ribeiro extended Al Rayyan’s lead in the 65th minute, netting the fourth goal of the match. Guedes capped off his stellar performance with his fourth goal in the 80th minute, solidifying his position as the league’s top scorer with a total of 12 goals this season. With this result, Al Rayyan now sits at 16 points in the league, while Al Shahania remains at the bottom with just 4 points.
In another match of the day, Al Arabi edged past Al Ahli with a narrow 1-0 victory at Al Thumama Stadium. Ishaq Al-Hajj scored the decisive goal in the ninth minute, executing a sharp move inside the box. Al Ahli fought hard for an equaliser, generating several scoring opportunities, but were thwarted by a series of impressive saves from Al Arabi’s goalkeeper, Jassim Al-Hail.
This victory allowed Al Arabi to climb to 13 points, moving up two spots to seventh place in the standings, while Al Ahli remains stagnant at 9 points following their sixth defeat of the season.
