Egypt’s Trézéguet Embraces Arab Cup Challenge in Qatar

The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 has commenced, and Egyptian national team player Mahmoud ‘Trézéguet’ Hassan expressed pride in representing his country in this prestigious tournament. He highlighted Qatar’s role in elevating Arab football on the global stage following its successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“The world witnessed Qatar’s exceptional hosting capabilities during the World Cup in 2022. It was a historic achievement not just for the country, but for the region,” Hassan stated. “Now with the Arab Cup, all eyes are on Qatar once again, as Arab football takes centre stage.” Known for his goal-scoring prowess, Hassan’s nickname pays homage to former French footballer David Trézéguet.

Egypt’s Group Stage Challenges

Egypt is competing in Group C alongside Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait. The team aims to improve on its previous performance, finishing fourth in the last Arab Cup held in 2021 after a penalty shootout loss to the hosts, Qatar.

Hassan remarked on the significance of the Arab Cup, stating, “Every match is an opportunity for the team to showcase its strength, and I am sure they are ready to give it their all and make our fans proud.” Currently playing as a midfielder for Egyptian club Al Ahly, he has also had stints with top European clubs, including Aston Villa and Qatar’s Al-Rayyan SC.

Since his debut for the Egyptian national team in 2014, Hassan has significantly contributed to the squad, helping them reach the finals of the African Cup in both 2017 and 2023. Recently, he played a crucial role in the 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, scoring five goals and securing Egypt’s spot in the tournament.

Looking Ahead to December 2

Egypt’s campaign will kick off on December 2 against Kuwait at the iconic Lusail Stadium at 17:30 local time. Hassan expressed enthusiasm about the tournament, noting, “Playing in Qatar is a wonderful experience for any player. They will be playing on World Cup stadiums, which makes this tournament all the more special.”

He praised Qatar’s sporting infrastructure, emphasizing how the quality of stadiums and facilities can influence a team’s performance and success. The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 runs from December 1 to December 18, featuring a total of 16 teams competing across six stadiums that previously hosted matches during the 2022 World Cup.
