Dunedin Man Charged for Threatening Police with Knife

A 30-year-old man in Dunedin has been charged after allegedly threatening police officers with a knife and biting one of them during a confrontation. The incident occurred on Friday, March 15, 2024, when police responded to reports of an individual interfering with vehicles on King Edward Street.

Upon locating the suspect, officers informed him that he was under arrest for unlawful interference. According to Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, the situation escalated when the man turned around and brandished a knife at the officers.

The police attempted to diffuse the situation, but the suspect allegedly lunged at them, resulting in a physical struggle. During this altercation, the man reportedly bit one of the officers.

Authorities quickly apprehended the suspect, who now faces multiple charges, including threatening police with a weapon and assaulting an officer. The injured officer received medical attention but is expected to recover.
