WuXi Biologics and HanchorBio Forge Partnership for Fusion Proteins
WuXi Biologics, a prominent global Contract Research, Development and Manufacturing Organization (CRDMO), has entered into a strategic partnership with HanchorBio Inc., a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing next-generation immunotherapies. This collaboration aims to advance HanchorBio’s pipeline of bi- and multi-functional fusion proteins.
The agreement, announced on January 26, 2026, in Shanghai, outlines WuXi Biologics’ role in providing comprehensive biologics development and manufacturing services. These services include cell line development, process and bioassay development, drug product formulation, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) manufacturing. This partnership is designed to enhance the efficiency of Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) execution and facilitate rapid clinical translation of HanchorBio’s innovative therapies.
Through this collaboration, HanchorBio aims to leverage WuXi Biologics’ extensive capabilities in complex biologics, which include bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and fusion proteins. As of 2025, WuXi Biologics supports 945 integrated client projects, with approximately 60% involving bi- and multi-specific antibodies, ADCs, and fusion proteins. This underscores the organization’s proven track record in accelerating the development of advanced therapeutic modalities.
Dr. Chris Chen, Chief Executive Officer of WuXi Biologics, expressed enthusiasm regarding the collaboration, highlighting the trust HanchorBio has placed in their comprehensive capabilities. “By leveraging our industry-leading technology platforms, proven expertise, and unwavering commitment to quality, we strive to accelerate the development of HanchorBio’s innovative bi-/multi-fusion proteins and help bring transformative therapies to patients worldwide,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Dr. Scott Liu, Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of HanchorBio, emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership. “This collaboration strengthens our ability to translate platform-driven innovation into high-quality clinical and commercial assets,” he said. He noted that execution speed, manufacturing reliability, and scalability are critical as they advance multiple next-generation fusion protein programs.
HanchorBio’s proprietary Fc-Based Designer Biologics (FBDBTM) platform is central to this partnership, enabling the rational design of multi-functional fusion proteins aimed at modulating both innate and adaptive immunity. This collaboration represents a significant step towards aligning discovery innovations with industrial-scale execution, thereby advancing HanchorBio’s oncology and autoimmune pipelines toward global clinical development.
WuXi Biologics is recognized for its commitment to sustainability and innovation in biologics development. With over 12,000 skilled employees across various countries, including China, the United States, and Germany, the organization emphasizes environmental responsibility while delivering advanced biologics solutions.
The collaboration with HanchorBio reflects WuXi Biologics’ dedication to enhancing the development and commercialization of innovative therapies that address significant unmet medical needs. By providing a robust and flexible platform, both companies aim to accelerate the journey from research to market, ultimately benefiting patients around the globe.
