In a thrilling display of speed and stamina, Return To Senders clinched victory in the Al Jumayliyah Cup on March 6, 2024, at the Al Rayyan Racecourse. The nine-year-old Thoroughbred triumphed in the 1700-meter race, showcasing his return to form against a competitive field of four-year-olds and older horses.

Under the skilled guidance of jockey Marco Casamento and the training expertise of Gassim Al Ghazali, Return To Senders surged past his rivals in the final 200 meters. The horse secured a commanding four-length victory, marking a successful double for the trainer-jockey duo on the race card.

Race Highlights and Performance

Starting from barrier 9, Return To Senders settled behind the early leaders as Coco Jack set the pace, followed closely by Mobilise, Assertively, Local Law, and Upton Park. The field maintained a steady tempo as they approached the home turn, setting the stage for an exciting finish.

As the horses entered the straight, Upton Park, trained by Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki and representing owner Mohammed Abdulhadi Al-Hajri, surged ahead, creating the impression of a potential upset. Nevertheless, Return To Senders responded with impressive speed, overtaking Upton Park in the final stretch to claim the prestigious trophy.

Upton Park ultimately secured second place, finishing under the guidance of jockey Faleh Bughenaim. Smart Contender, ridden by Abdulla Rashid Al-Hajri for owner and trainer Nasser Owaida Salem Al Hajri, rounded out the podium, showcasing the competitive nature of the event.

Other Notable Performances

The seven-race card featured several noteworthy performances. Al Bayyin Grine celebrated his maiden victory in the opening race, while Ta’hoos Al Shahania demonstrated remarkable speed, powering home from the back of the pack. Mysteryofthesands exhibited a devastating turn of foot, and Moharb asserted his dominance throughout his race. AJS Najma impressed with an effective front-running strategy, and Sussex showcased both stamina and authority, contributing to an action-packed evening at Al Rayyan.

The Al Jumayliyah Cup not only highlighted the talents of the horses and their connections but also underscored the excitement of Thoroughbred racing in Qatar. With this victory, Return To Senders has firmly reestablished himself as a contender to watch in upcoming races.
