New Wellness Centre Planned for Arrowtown’s Ayrburn Development

A new wellness and amenity building is set to be constructed in Arrowtown’s Ayrburn hospitality precinct. Northbrook Arrowtown Ltd, affiliated with developer Chris Meehan, has submitted a resource consent application to the Queenstown Council for approval. The proposed building will cover 1,622.6 square metres and will be situated between the existing hospitality precinct and the Northbrook Arrowtown retirement village, located to the north of the site.

The ambitious design includes a range of facilities aimed at enhancing community well-being. Plans feature a 25-meter swimming pool, saunas, a gym, and dedicated yoga and pilates areas. Additionally, treatment rooms, changing facilities, a wellness lounge, and a residents’ lounge are part of the proposal. The building will also feature reception areas, a sales suite, and back-of-house operations. An outdoor petanque course is also in the works, further promoting an active lifestyle.

This wellness centre aims to serve multiple groups, including future residents of Northbrook Arrowtown, which will consist of 142 independent apartments, visitors to a planned boutique hotel, and the general public. According to the resource consent application, the development is expected to complement the Ayrburn initiative, the luxury retirement living, and the boutique hotel located near the waterfall.

The application states, “The proposal will complement the Ayrburn development, Northbrook luxury later living and boutique hotel by the waterfall to create efficient use of resources and a vibrant Waterfall Park Zone.” Furthermore, the developers assert that any potential adverse effects related to the proposed activities will be “less than minor,” aiming to mitigate concerns from local residents and stakeholders.

The project reflects a growing trend in the hospitality and wellness sectors, with an increasing emphasis on integrated living spaces that prioritize health and wellness. If approved, this facility could become a significant addition to the Arrowtown community, providing essential amenities that promote an active and healthy lifestyle for both residents and visitors.
