Warriors Face Sea Eagles in High-Stakes NRL Showdown
The New Zealand Warriors will clash with the Manly Sea Eagles in a pivotal match on March 15, 2024, as they aim for a top-four finish in the NRL. The Warriors have made a critical adjustment to their lineup, with Wayde Egan sidelined due to a hip injury. In his place, Samuel Healey has been named to start in the No. 9 jersey for his sixth appearance of the season.
Coach Andrew Webster has opted for caution regarding Egan’s injury, planning for his return in the finals, which would mark his 150th NRL match. This is the only major alteration to the Warriors’ squad, while Tanner Stowers-Smith has been selected to start at prop after being used off the interchange in the last two games.
As it stands, the Warriors are positioned sixth in the NRL standings, and their path to the top four requires a victory over the Sea Eagles. Additionally, they will need the Brisbane Broncos and Cronulla Sharks to lose their respective matches against the Melbourne Storm and the Canterbury Bulldogs. Both the Storm and Bulldogs have announced their strongest possible lineups, with Jahrome Hughes returning from a shoulder injury, bolstering Melbourne’s chances.
The NRL finals format offers an exciting twist: the winners of the first two games will advance directly to the preliminary finals, while the losing teams will have a second opportunity with a home final against the victors from the other quarter-finals.
On the other hand, the Sea Eagles, led by departing captain Daly Cherry-Evans, have significant stakes in this match. This fixture marks Cherry-Evans’ last home game for the club, adding emotional weight to the contest. The Sea Eagles are also vying for the final spot in the finals; however, their path is complex. They must defeat the Warriors and rely on the Sydney Roosters losing to South Sydney, alongside an improbable 82-point swing in their for-and-against differential. Additionally, they need the Dolphins to lose to the Canberra Raiders on Sunday.
Earlier this season, the Warriors secured a 36-16 victory against the Sea Eagles, but they have not triumphed at Manly since 2020. As the teams prepare for this crucial match, all eyes will be on the playing field, where both squads will bring their best efforts to secure a spot in the finals.
The Warriors’ lineup for the match includes:
1. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad
2. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak
3. Adam Pompey
4. Rocco Berry
5. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
6. Chanel Harris-Tavita
7. Tanah Boyd
8. James Fisher-Harris (c)
9. Samuel Healey
10. Tanner Stowers-Smith
11. Kurt Capewell
12. Marata Niukore
13. Erin Clark
Interchange options include:
14. Te Maire Martin
15. Eddie Ieremia-Toeava
16. Demitric Vaimauga
17. Leka Halasima
18. Taine Tuaupiki
20. Kalani Going
21. Bunty Afoa
22. Ed Kosi
23. Luke Hanson
As anticipation builds for this critical encounter, both teams will look to capitalize on their respective opportunities, making for an exhilarating night of rugby league action.
