Kirsty Elers and Jen McDonald Nominated as Local Legends
Kirsty Elers and Jen McDonald, both integral figures at the Crescent Bar and Grill in Kaitangata, have received nominations for the prestigious Silver Fern Farms lamb roast. They were recognized for their contributions as “unsung heroes,” supporting numerous local clubs through donations and fundraising efforts while providing companionship and assistance to those in need.
Elers expressed gratitude for the opportunity to make a difference in the community. “It’s nice to be in a position to help,” she said. This sentiment reflects the spirit of the Crescent Bar and Grill, which has served as a gathering place for the local community for nearly 50 years.
Community Hub and Local Leadership
The establishment, originally known as the Kaitangata public house, was renamed The Crescent when McDonald took over as owner, manager, chef, and bartender eight years ago. Under her leadership, the bar has transformed into what she describes as “the living room of the community,” where locals can drop in for conversation and support.
McDonald emphasized the importance of fostering community ties. “We are planning on closing for Christmas, so maybe we’ll share the roast then,” she mentioned, indicating their commitment to maintaining connections with the community.
The efforts of Elers and McDonald resonate widely, as they embody the values of support and generosity that many locals appreciate. Their nominations highlight the impact of individuals who dedicate their time and resources to uplift those around them.
Community members are encouraged to submit their own nominations for Local Legends, providing the nominee’s name, phone number, and a brief explanation of why they deserve recognition. Nominations can be sent to [email protected].
As the Crescent Bar and Grill continues to thrive, the contributions of Kirsty Elers and Jen McDonald remind everyone of the power of community spirit and the importance of supporting one another.
