Help Identify Unnamed Woman in Historic Photographs from New Plymouth
Puke Ariki, the Taranaki-based museum and library, is seeking public assistance to identify an unnamed woman featured in an historic photograph. This image is part of a significant collection of over 110,000 photographs captured by Swainson’s Studios and Bernard Woods Studio in New Plymouth between 1923 and 1997. Many of these photographs remain without identification, and the museum aims to connect the community with its heritage.
The photograph in question can be viewed online at the Puke Ariki collection website. This week’s featured image is available at the following link: Healy Woman Photo. Last week’s photograph, which features a couple from the Omata Tennis Club, can also be accessed online here: Omata Tennis Club Couple Photo.
Puke Ariki encourages anyone with knowledge about the individuals in these photographs to come forward. The organization maintains a vast heritage collection that can be explored on their website at collection.pukeariki.com/objects.
If you believe you can assist in identifying the woman in this week’s photo or have any information regarding the previous images, you can reach out via email at [email protected] or contact the Taranaki Research Centre directly at (06) 759 5684. Your contributions could help preserve the history of the region and bring stories of the past back to life.
As Puke Ariki continues its efforts to document and share the rich history of Taranaki, community involvement plays a crucial role in uncovering the identities of those captured in these timeless images. Each photograph tells a story, and with your help, more of these stories can be revealed.
