Local A&P Show Attracts Enthusiastic Crowd Despite Rain

Attendance at the local A&P show on Saturday, March 9, 2024, demonstrated strong community support despite challenging weather conditions. According to Dale Harris, president of the A&P show, the turnout was “encouraging,” although it fell short of last year’s impressive figure of over 10,000 attendees.

Harris expressed gratitude to the public for braving the rain, stating, “There’s more here than I thought there would have been with the weather, so it’s a lot to thank the people in public for coming out and getting their gumboots on.” This year’s planning process was a comprehensive endeavor, with preparations taking place year-round.

Stall Participation and Community Engagement

The event featured approximately 50 stalls, a slight decrease from the previous year. While some vendors withdrew due to the adverse weather, Harris noted that initial projections indicated a growth in participation. “A few definitely pulled out because of the weather, but initially we were up on what we were going to have last year, so it is growing each year,” he explained.

Although there was no specific theme for this year’s show, Harris emphasized the importance of fostering connections between the urban and rural communities. “We’ll keep pushing it. We’ll try to do more and more trades here, have more and more stalls, and more things for people to do,” he said.

Looking ahead, Harris humorously anticipated that next year’s weather might present new challenges: “More likely it’ll be too hot next year.” The A&P show continues to serve as a vital platform for local businesses and community engagement, showcasing the resilience and enthusiasm of the attendees despite the elements.
