Nick Jonas Reveals Anxiety Attack During 2026 Golden Globes
Nick Jonas has publicly shared his experience with an anxiety attack during the 2026 Golden Globes. A video that captured the moment quickly gained traction on social media, showing Jonas stepping away from the red carpet to take deep breaths and drink water. The clip, shared on X, was captioned, “social anxiety got the best of him.” In response, Jonas admitted, “Yeah…it hit me like a gut punch.”
This candid revelation has ignited discussions about social anxiety, panic attacks, and the differences between these conditions, particularly in high-pressure environments. According to Dr. Rahul Chandhok, head psychiatrist and consultant at Artemis Hospitals, social anxiety is characterized by intense fear during social interactions. He describes it as “a pervasive and often enfeebling psychological condition.”
Dr. Chandhok elaborated on the symptoms, which can manifest on various levels. “Physical symptoms include rapid heartbeat, sweating, trembling, nausea, and difficulty breathing,” he noted. Emotionally, those affected may experience extreme self-consciousness and panic. Behaviorally, individuals may either avoid social situations or endure them with significant discomfort.
In addition, Dr. Namita Ruparel, Assistant Professor at the Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences, explained that anxiety attacks are often linked to fears regarding specific events. She described anxiety as a chain of unpleasant thoughts accompanied by worry and tension. This condition can induce physical changes, impacting heart rate, blood pressure, and even insulin levels.
Dr. Ruparel highlighted that anxiety is rooted in uncertainty and a desire to mitigate perceived threats. “Anxiety results in restlessness, fatigue, muscle tension, and irritability, while panic attacks can lead to shaking, chest pain, and a feeling of detachment,” she stated.
While panic attacks and anxiety episodes may appear similar, experts emphasize a crucial distinction. “Panic attacks are sudden, whereas anxiety attacks build gradually over time,” Dr. Ruparel explained. Panic is an intense fear that disrupts a person’s ability to process their surroundings, often occurring without warning. Symptoms may include a racing heartbeat, sweating, chills, and a sense of impending doom.
Recognizing these episodes is essential, according to Dr. Ruparel. She advocates for awareness of the occurrence of such attacks, urging individuals to seek formal diagnosis and support. Techniques such as meditation, relaxation, and controlled breathing can be beneficial for managing both panic and anxiety attacks.
Jonas’ openness about his experience resonates with many, underscoring that anxiety can affect anyone, regardless of fame. His comments reinforce the importance of fostering open conversations around mental health, encouraging others to seek help and share their experiences.
