Al Arabi and Umm Salal Secure Dominant Wins in QSL Cup Action
In a thrilling display of football, Al Arabi defeated Al Duhail 4-0 in the QSL Cup Round 5, propelling themselves into the top three of the standings. This decisive victory, held in Doha on October 7, 2023, reshaped the competition, leaving the race for the top spot more competitive than ever.
Al Arabi took an early lead when Isaac Lihadji found the back of the net just three minutes into the match. Jordan Veretout extended their advantage in the 40th minute with a well-executed header, ensuring a comfortable halftime scoreline.
The second half saw Alaaeddin Mohammed Hassan score in the 67th minute, followed shortly by a clinical finish from Pablo Sarabia in the 72nd minute, bringing the final tally to 4-0. Alaaeddin expressed satisfaction with his performance and highlighted the influence of new head coach Cosmin Contra, who managed his first match for Al Arabi.
“Hopefully this is a strong start with the new coach. He has been clear about his expectations, and we will work to implement his ideas,” said Alaaeddin. “This was only our first match, but we aim to keep improving and perform well throughout the league.”
This victory elevated Al Arabi to 10 points from four matches, placing them in a tie with Al Kharaitiyat, Umm Salal, and Al Rayyan at the top of the table. With a strong goal difference of +9, Al Arabi currently sits in third place, closely following leaders Al Kharaitiyat and second-placed Umm Salal, who achieved a stunning 5-0 victory over Al Sadd.
