Nasser Al Attiyah Dominates Stage 6 to Lead Dakar Rally
In a decisive performance, Qatari driver Nasser Al Attiyah clinched victory in Stage 6 of the 48th edition of the Dakar Rally held in Saudi Arabia. This triumph marks his first stage win in this year’s rally and propels him to the top of the provisional overall standings.
Al Attiyah, competing for the Dacia team alongside his Belgian co-driver, Fabien Lorquen, completed the challenging 915-kilometer stage, which spanned from Hail to Riyadh, in a time of 3 hours, 38 minutes, and 28 seconds. The stage included a demanding 326-kilometer special section, testing the endurance and skill of all competitors.
Competition Heats Up
Finishing the stage in second place was nine-time World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb from France, who, with co-driver Edouard Boulanger, crossed the line at 3:41:26, trailing Al Attiyah by 2 minutes and 58 seconds. American driver Seth Quintero of Toyota, with co-driver Andrew Short, secured third with a time of 3:41:47, 3 minutes and 19 seconds behind the leader.
With this latest win, Al Attiyah now leads the overall standings with a cumulative time of 24:18:29. He holds a lead of 6 minutes and 10 seconds over South African Henk Lategan of Toyota Racing and is 9 minutes and 13 seconds ahead of Spanish driver Nani Roma of Ford Racing. Loeb’s strong effort allowed him to climb from eighth to sixth place, although he remains 17 minutes and 36 seconds behind Al Attiyah.
Al Attiyah Reflects on His Performance
Following his win, Al Attiyah expressed his satisfaction, stating that he gave his all during the stage. He emphasized his high-pressure driving style as a crucial factor in achieving this victory. “It’s fantastic to be leading the overall standings halfway through the rally,” he remarked, hinting at his strategy to maintain momentum in the upcoming stages.
Despite the challenges faced at the start of the stage, including previous punctures, Al Attiyah remains focused on driving without issues. His previous victories in the Dakar Rally, which include wins in 2011, 2015, 2019, 2022, and 2023, reflect his experience and determination in one of the world’s most demanding motorsport events.
As the Dakar Rally progresses, the competition is set to intensify, with Al Attiyah aiming to build on his lead and secure another title in this legendary race.
