Families Invited to Joyful Nativity Service in East Auckland

An east Auckland church is hosting a Carol and Nativity Service on December 24, 2023, inviting families and the wider community to join in a festive celebration. The event will take place from 17:00 to 17:30 at the Howick Presbyterian Church, located on Vincent Street near the intersection with Ridge Road.

The service aims to present the Christmas story in a lively, interactive manner, encouraging audience participation through singing familiar carols. Stephanie Chamberlin, a representative of the church, expressed excitement about the event, stating, “We tell the Christmas story in a fun, interactive way with lots of audience participation.”

Families are encouraged to attend dressed as characters from the nativity story, such as angels or shepherds. For those without costumes, the church offers a variety of outfits for children and parents to wear upon arrival. This approach adds a playful element to the service, making it accessible and enjoyable for attendees of all ages.

“This is a service for families to enjoy connecting with the Christmas story in a relaxed setting,” Chamberlin remarked. The Nativity Service has gained popularity among families who may not regularly attend church services but wish to engage with the traditional significance of Christmas. The narrative revolves around Mary, Joseph, and the birth of baby Jesus, emphasizing themes of joy and community.

As a special treat, the event will conclude with the serving of Christmas mince pies, further enhancing the festive atmosphere. The church encourages everyone to participate, stating that “all are welcome” to share in this celebration of the Christmas spirit.
