Taranaki Women’s Refuge Raises $118,000 Through Pop-Up Shop
A recent clothing pop-up shop organized by the Taranaki Women’s Refuge has successfully raised $118,000 to support women and families affected by domestic violence. The event took place from September 20 to 28, 2023, at the New Plymouth Raceway, drawing significant community support.
Shona Smith, the relationship manager for Taranaki Women’s Refuge, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of generosity from the local community. “The dedication and hard work of our pop-up team, along with the support from businesses, volunteers, donors, and shoppers, have culminated in this remarkable result,” Smith stated on social media.
The funds raised from the pop-up shop will be allocated to various initiatives aimed at assisting those impacted by domestic violence across the region. This financial boost is critical for the refuge, which relies on community support to continue its mission.
Looking ahead, Taranaki Women’s Refuge has scheduled its next major fundraising event, titled “Deck the Halls for Refuge.” This festive gathering will take place on November 15, 2023, with tickets still available for those interested in supporting the cause further.
The success of the pop-up shop highlights the community’s commitment to aiding vulnerable populations and underscores the ongoing need for resources to combat domestic violence. As organizations like the Taranaki Women’s Refuge work tirelessly to provide essential support, events like these play a crucial role in sustaining their efforts and expanding their reach.
The refuge continues to seek partnerships and contributions to enhance its services, ensuring that families in need receive the assistance they require. With community backing, they aim to make a lasting positive impact in the lives of those affected by domestic violence in the Taranaki region.
