Qiulae Wong Elevates Politics with Business Acumen and Vision
Qiulae Wong is the new face of political ambition in New Zealand, bringing a wealth of experience from the business sector to her role as leader of The Opportunity Party. Wong’s career has been characterized by a commitment to ethical business practices and social responsibility, which she now aims to infuse into the political landscape.
Born and raised in One Tree Hill, Auckland, Wong pursued studies in law and politics, laying the groundwork for her future endeavors. Her professional journey began with a focus on human rights and ethical business at Be.Accessible, a New Zealand organization dedicated to improving accessibility for all.
International Experience Shapes Leadership Style
Wong’s career took her overseas, where she held significant roles in London. She worked with the Ethical Fashion Forum and co-founded the sustainable tech start-up Common Objective. Additionally, she led the Impact team at Hoxby, a flexible working platform that champions a diverse workforce. It was during this period that she met her husband, Grant, and together they welcomed their daughters, Malia and Cleo. The family returned to New Zealand in 2022, aiming to contribute positively to their home community.
Upon her return, Wong quickly established herself as a leader in the sustainability movement, becoming the first Country Director for the B Corp initiative in New Zealand. In this capacity, she collaborated with prominent organizations such as Kiwibank, Sharesies, and Blunt Umbrellas, promoting a business model that balances profit with purpose. Her subsequent role at KPMG New Zealand involved guiding major corporations through the complexities of low-carbon transitions, reinforcing her commitment to sustainability in business practices.
A Vision for Collaborative Change
Wong’s philosophy is anchored in the belief that collaboration and a shared vision can foster resilient communities. Her volunteer roles further illustrate this commitment; she serves as co-convenor of Kiwis in Climate and is a Trustee of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance Aotearoa. Through these positions, she advocates for policies that prioritize environmental health and societal well-being.
As she steps into this new political role, Wong aims to leverage her extensive background to drive positive change. Her approach blends the principles of ethical business with the urgency of political action, reflecting her belief in the potential of business as a force for good.
With her unique experiences and unwavering dedication, Qiulae Wong is poised to make a significant impact in New Zealand politics, advocating for a future where economic growth aligns with social and environmental responsibility.
